With the Hemp High we are the first in the world to launch a collection of chairs with a shell of a unique biomaterial. The used materials hemp and resin are both fully biological, plant-based and recyclable. Something that has never been possible before.
We have repeatedly expressed our ambition to make nothing but sustainable circular furniture in the future and a 100% biological chair fits in perfectly with this vision. Using the beautiful, natural material hemp and Plantics bio-resin, this turned out to be possible, resulting in Hemp High and Hemp Fine.
This video explains in detail how we developed these unique chairs.
The residual waste of fibres from hemp processing is used as raw material to make the seat shell of the chair. The advantages of hemp are that it grows without artificial fertilizer or pesticides, hardly requires any water and is grown in the Netherlands. In addition, hemp is super strong and absorbs CO2. Resulting in a negative CO2 footprint for the production of the chair. So more CO2 is absorbed than is emitted.
After harvesting, the fibres are removed from the hemp and combed in the Hempflax factory. The result is a thick, natural brown mat, which is the basic material for the chair. To press the mat into the shape of the chair, the binding agent developed by Plantics is used.
What makes this chair truly unique is that we can shred it and turn it back into a chair again without adding chemicals or other substances.
The individual components of the chair are designed in such a way that they can easily be separated and reused after use. Although they are completely biodegradable in nature, we prefer not to break them down. That is a waste and unnecessary. The shell is shredded and then pressed again. The same quality, repeated over and over again. We are the only company in the world where this is possible without having to add new raw materials
The new Hemp collection is not only suitable for the office, but also for the home. Offices are becoming increasingly homely. As a result, the furniture in the office also fits well in your own living room. This also applies to the Hemp collection. Not only have we paid attention to sustainability and practicality, but also to design, comfort and affordability.

Hemp High is locally designed, developed and produced.
Local production: Vepa distinguishes itself by producing everything in its own local facilities. Our own wood, sheet steel, tubular steel, powder coating, wood spray, upholstery and final assembly departments form a complete production circle within a single company. By producing close to the sales market we keep distances small and CO2 emissions minimal.
LCA: By using independent LCAs (life cycle analysis) we reveal the environmental impact of a product. In product development we can greatly improve later designs by carrying out an LCA in the initial phase. In addition, an LCA also provides insight into the main factors responsible for the environmental damage. We then use these factors as starting points for redesign or as focal points for improvement. The LCAs are carried out in accordance with ISO 14044.
FSC® and PEFC: Vepa only uses certified wood. The FSC® and PEFC labels stand for responsible and sustainable forest management. Responsible forest management meets three criteria: it takes account of the environment, respects social aspects (such as the rights of local communities and forest workers) and is economically viable. Moreover, wood is the number one bio-based resource by nature.
TPAC (Timber Procurement Assessment Committee): Timber to be supplied or timber processed in products to be supplied must comply with the Dutch Procurement Criteria for Timber according to the Socially Responsible Procurement criteria. FSC® and PEFC are both systems that have been approved by the Dutch state secretary.
SRP criteria: Vepa complies with the SRP criteria drawn up by the central government. The national criteria for socially responsible procurement (SRP) for office furniture are available via the SRP criteria tool (https://www.mvicriteria.nl/en/webtool).
