Vermilion Energy

Ireland

Vermilion Energy, a Canadian gas exploration company with its European headquarters in Amsterdam, recently completed a full refurbishment of its Irish head office in Belmullet, County Mayo. Dublin based interior fit-out company Future Office was appointed to furnish the workspace, with their design and build division, Chawner and Trench Ltd, overseeing the refurbishment works.

Driven by a strong commitment to environmental responsibility, the project prioritised low carbon materials and sustainable design, so naturally Future Office selected Vepa as the primary furniture partner. Vepa’s products made a measurable impact on the project’s sustainability goals. Across the supplied furniture, an estimated 3,682 PET bottles were repurposed into high-performance, durable Vepa components. When combined with the PET felt acoustic products used throughout the space, over 6,000 recycled PET bottles contributed to the overall material palette-underscoring the project’s dedication to responsible sourcing and circular design.

All carpeting, partitioning, and acoustic elements were also sourced from carbon-neutral suppliers, maintaining a consistent low-impact ethos across every layer of the fitout. The interior scheme took visual cues from the dramatic natural beauty of Ireland’s West Coast. A biophilic colour palette found in the surrounding terrain, flora, and seascapes-was reflected throughout the space. The Vepa Felt collection was especially well suited to this natural colour language, offering both acoustic performance and a soft, tactile connection to the environment.

Future Office delivered a cohesive scheme across all work zones, incorporating sustainable furniture into every aspect of the workspace. Recycled accessories from Zooi were thoughtfully used to finish the space, adding personality and circular value in equal measure.

Vermilion Energy’s Irish head office now stands as a compelling example of what can be achieved when sustainability, design, and innovation are aligned. Through the collaborative efforts of Future Office and Vepa, the project not only met high environmental standards-it also delivered a beautiful, functional workplace deeply connected to its location and values.
