The Renewable Materials Conference is the successor to the International Conference for Biomaterials, which was to take place this year for the 14th time. During the three-day (online) conference, with more than 400 participants from 31 different countries, the focus is mainly on sharing knowledge and solving issues in the field of renewable, bio-based and recycled materials. The Renewable Material of the Year is awarded for innovative, renewable and “trend-setting” products. In the finals, which consisted of six nominees from different countries, including India, the United States and France, the Hemp chair collection was chosen as the
winner.

The Renewable Materials Conference is orgaized by the nova-Institute GmbH.

The residual waste of fibres from hemp processing is used as raw material to make the seat shell of the chair. The advantages of hemp are that it grows without artificial fertilizer or pesticides, hardly requires any water and is grown in the Netherlands. In addition, hemp is super strong and absorbs CO2. Resulting in a negative CO2 footprint for the production of the chair. So more CO2 is absorbed than is emitted.
